What founding member means

This implementation of Fretly is new. I teach guitar for a living, and this is the tool I always wanted for myself and my own students: the whole fretboard, every scale, chord and voicing, drawn precisely and kept in one place. It works today and it grows every week.

Founding members are the first group in. You get everything, new features and all, at the founding price. €5 a month is the launch price, paid tiers will come later. Founding members keep full access for a good while, with plenty of notice before anything changes.

Fretly is built and run by one person: me. The vision, the building and the testing, all of it is my own work. That keeps the tool honest and quick to improve, but it also means not every corner has been tested the way a company with a test department would do it. So if something does not behave, I ask for a little patience, and for a bug report. Reports go to the top of my list.

In return I ask the one thing this new tool actually needs: use it, in your practice or your teaching, and tell me where it falls short. You are helping a guitarist build the tool we both wished existed.

About me

I am Alexander Stakenburg, a jazz guitarist and teacher from the Netherlands. I studied jazz guitar at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and have taught full time since 2007 at my own local guitar school. 

In 2005, during a stint of a couple of years as a software developer, I envisioned and created a first implementation of a desktop application called "Fretboard Knowledge". Only now, 25+ years later, it has become what it's always supposed to be.
